Create a county-level map of any state | Documentation

This tutorial will show you how to use our HTML5 County map to create a county-level map of a single state. For example, using this tutorial you could create a New York county map like this:

Here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Download the HTML5 County Map (either trial or full version will work).

  2. Choose the state you’d like to display. In this example, we'll use New York.

  3. Determine the 2-digit abbreviation of your state. For NY, the abbreviation is NY.

  4. In the main_settings of your mapdata.js set initial_zoom: 'NY', this will make the map load zoomed in on New York.

  5. In the main_settings of your mapdata.js set initial_zoom_solo: 'yes', this will hide the adjacent states and remove the back button.

  6. Your map should now load, zoomed in only on New York!

  7. Email us to receive a speed-optimized version of the map.
The map still contains the border information for all the counties in all the other states. You can email us to receive a stripped down version of the countymap.js file that only contains the data for your state. This will make the map load much more quickly on your site. Just shoot as an email at support@simplemaps.com and make sure to tell us the state you'd like to display. If the county maps become popular enough, we will automate this step.

If you like, you can download the New York example:
